Currently in its early stages, The Cave for the Fish is a forthcoming illustrated book written by Willa Sacharow and illustrated by R. Jamin. In the style of an illuminated manuscript, it depicts a fable of spiritual reconnection between a child artist living beneath the sea and her counterpart, a pearl diver living on a barren island. Set against a luminous oceanic backdrop, the story follows their friendship which spans the border between the land and the sea, the real and surreal, and dreams and reality. Finding inspiration in medieval manuscripts, 19th century fairy tales, and contemporary fantasy stories, Willa Sacharow and R. Jamin have developed a voice and visual style of their own to reveal an ethereal world of light and shadows illustrated with ornate borders of shells and pearls which surround a kelpy hand lettered script.
