The Cave for the Fish is a multidisciplinary storytelling project based on a story written by Willa Sacharow with accompanying illustrations by artist R. Jamin. It depicts a fable of spiritual reconnection between a child artist living beneath the sea and her counterpart, a pearl diver living on a barren island. Set against a luminous oceanic backdrop, the story follows their friendship which spans the border between the land and the sea, the real and surreal, and dreams and reality. Together the text and illustrations reveal an ethereal world of light and shadows illustrated with ornate borders of shells and pearls which surround a kelpy script.

As storytellers we are always traversing through imagined spaces, dragging hopes and ideas across the threshold from dreams to reality. Moving forward with this project, we are collaborating with artists to make fragments of the story tangible, creating works that blur the line between the ethereal underwater world and the mundane world above. These works will remind us that the boundary between the imagined and the real is soft and that through collaboration we have the power to envision a shared world and bring a story to life.
