Cave for the Fish is an interdisciplinary storytelling project based on a story written by Willa Sacharow with accompanying illustrations by artist R. Jamin. It tells the fable of a spiritual reconnection between a child artist living beneath the sea and her counterpart, a pearl diver living on a barren island. Set against a luminous oceanic backdrop, the story traces the evolution of their friendship as it spans the boundaries between the land and the sea, the real and surreal, and dreams and reality. Together the text and imagery reveal an ethereal underwater world glowing with iridescent shells, silver pearls, and shimmering fish beneath the satin darkness of the moonlit sea.
As storytellers we are always traversing through imagined spaces, carrying hopes and ideas across the threshold from dreams to reality. Moving forward with this project, we are collaborating with artists to transform fragments of the story into tangible forms, creating works that blur the line between the luminous underwater world and the mundane world above. These works will remind us that the boundary between the imagined and the real is permeable and that through collaboration we have the power to envision a shared world and bring a story to life.
Currently collaborating with artists, the work is now evolving across new media, expanding into the realms of sculpture and sound.
